Injuries Reported in San Diego Auto Accident on Interstate 805 near State Route 52
SAN DIEGO, CA (December 17, 2024) – Sunday night, an alarming big rig crash on Interstate 805 near State Route 52 injured 2.
The incident happened at about 11:00 p.m. when a semi-truck hit a stalled vehicle on Interstate 805 near State Route 52.
A collision caused major disruptions on northbound Interstate 805 near State Route 52 during Monday’s morning commute, CHP reported.
The stalled sedan, which had an 82-year-old woman inside, was struck by the semi-truck when the driver could not brake in time. The woman was hospitalized with major injuries but is expected to survive. The truck driver was unharmed.
The crash also caused an oil spill, prompting the closure of most northbound lanes near Clairemont Mesa Boulevard for several hours. A hazardous materials team worked to clean up the spill, with all but one lane reopening by 11 a.m. and the freeway fully cleared by 12:40 p.m.
The incident led to gridlock traffic on I-805 and surrounding freeways as drivers sought alternate routes. A SigAlert warned of delays of up to one hour.
