Hit-and-Run Driver Injures 2 People, Sideswipes Police Car in San Diego
SAN DIEGO, CA (June 19, 2019) – A hit-and-run crash on Niagara Avenue left two people injured on the Ocean Beach Pier early Tuesday morning.
Officials said the collision happened in the 5000 block of Niagara Avenue at around 1:25 a.m. Sgt. Joe Ruvido said a black 2005 Acura hit a 21-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman while they were fishing on the pier.
Reports indicated that a patrol officer in the area attempted to stop the vehicle. However, the driver of the Acura sped away. After that, he sideswiped an unoccupied police car while fleeing the scene.
The police described the suspect as a Hispanic man in his mid-20s with a beard and a heavy build. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt. On the other hand, the suspect’s vehicle has a cracked windshield, a lowered suspension, and custom wheels.
Medics treated the man and woman at the scene for minor injuries. No officers were injured in the crash.
