Driver Arrested as Watsonville Chase Ends Up in Crash on Freedom Boulevard
WATSONVILLE, CA (September 14, 2019) — The police arrested a driver on Wednesday after a pursuit ended in a multi-vehicle crash on Freedom Boulevard.
The Watsonville Police Department said the incident happened late Wednesday afternoon. The officers tried to pull over the driver of an Acura sedan due to a traffic violation.
Instead of stopping, the driver sped away. This prompted the officers to pursue the vehicle. However, they stopped the chase because the man was driving recklessly.
The Acura subsequently crashed head-on into a Honda Civic. A third vehicle tried to dodge the smash-up but it still collided with the Honda.
The Acura driver then fled the scene on foot, but the police caught him. Medics transported him to a local hospital with minor injuries. The police arrested him following his treatment.
Reports indicated that the female driver of the Honda also sustained injuries. There was no information, however, if the medics also transported her to a hospital.
Meantime, the officers closed Freedom Boulevard in both directions for about an hour as they investigated.
Doing traffic stops is an important part of a law enforcement officer’s duty to serve and protect the community. Sometimes, it can be a stressful situation for both the driver and the officer. However, through good communication and cooperation, a traffic stop can be a positive experience for everyone. As such, it is important to remain calm when an officer is attempting to pull you over. Find the nearest and safest area to pull over and park your car. Stay in the vehicle until further instructions are received from the officer.
