2 Injured in Crash Caused by Alleged Car Thief in Patterson
PATTERSON, CA (December 11, 2018) – Two people were injured after an alleged car theft ended in a crash at East Las Palmas Avenue and Elm Avenue in Patterson Monday morning.
Officials said a homeowner witnessed the alleged theft of his pickup truck and gave chase. Law enforcement officers were also involved in the pursuit. The pickup ran the stoplight at the intersection of East Las Palmas Avenue and Elm Avenue, and in the process broadsided another vehicle just before 7:30 a.m.
The impact of the crash pushed the oncoming vehicle into a light pole. The vehicle was occupied by a male and a female who were both had to be extricated by emergency responders. One of the two reportedly sustained a head injury, while the other had a broken leg. Both were transported to a hospital for treatment and further evaluation.
Law enforcement officers set up a perimeter search for the driver of the alleged stolen vehicle, who fled on foot after the crash.
The crash prompted the closure of East Las Palmas Avenue in both directions for several hours. The road was reopened at around 10:30 a.m.
