2 Injured in Shoreline Car Crashes on 5 Freeway
SHORELINE, WA (July 17, 2019) – Two people sustained injuries after multiple crashes on 5 Freeway on July 16.
The incident started about 2:40 a.m. on 5 Freeway near NE 155th Street when a car rear-ended a Camaro. The driver then fled drove from the scene but eventually left his damaged car on the freeway near the Metro Bus Barn exit just south of NE 175th Street. He fled on foot.
Afterward, a semi-truck crashed into the empty vehicle on the freeway.
Authorities arrested the second driver.
Trooper Rick Johnson revealed that the crash involved four vehicles. Responders transported two people to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with non-life-threatening injuries.
“It’s an expansive scene,” Johnson revealed. “We’re still trying to make sense of it, but we have the causing driver in custody.”
Authorities diverted all northbound traffic for several hours, snarling traffic along 5 Freeway in the area for much of the morning commute.
By 7:30 a.m., crews finally cleared up the scene.
Driving can be very dangerous and almost anything can happen if you are not prepared. It is important to always drive within the posted speed limit. Slow down if you see traffic stalling ahead to avoid hitting other vehicles.
