2 Injured and 1 Arrested in Gilbert Multi-Vehicle Crash on Williams Field Road
GILBERT, AZ (September 23, 2019) – Two people sustained injuries while authorities arrested a man after a DUI multi-vehicle crash on Williams Field Road.
According to the Gilbert police, 26-year-old Jorge Medina of Queen Creek faces DUI and endangerment charges after causing the multi-vehicle crash on September 22.
Jorge Medina ran a red light around 8:30 a.m. on Williams Field Road and Higley Road. He then struck a vehicle with a family of five. He also hit another vehicle with a family of eight. Police added that Jorge Medina suffered serious injuries following the crash.
The police revealed that the family of five in a Toyota Tundra traveled east when Medina hit them. As a result, the Toyota Tundra overturned. The two vehicles then struck a GMC Yukon with a family of eight on their way to church. Moreover, two other vehicles got hit.
The Toyota Tundra’s two occupants, a 12-year old and his mother, suffered injuries and went to a hospital. Meanwhile, the Gilbert Fire and Rescue evaluated 15 people at the scene.
“Everyone was wearing seat belts, which likely saved lives,” Gilbert police stated.
Meanwhile, police believe that Medina suffered from impairment during the crash. Jorge Medina is facing DUI and endangerment charges.
The incident shut down Williams Field Road and Higley Road during the investigation. The streets have since reopened.
