Two Dead after Head-On Crash on Highway 299 during Wet Weather
WILLOW CREEK, CA (September 18, 2019) – Two foreign nationals died in a head-on crash on Highway 299, late Wednesday morning. Authorities withheld the identities of the victims, pending notification of next of kin.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened at about 11:45 AM. Preliminary investigation suggests that an eastbound Mazda Sedan was traveling at an unsafe speed for the wet roadway conditions. Then, it lost control and traveled into the westbound lane.
There, it collided head-on with a 2010 Chevrolet armored truck.
Emergency responders pronounced the driver and the passenger of the Mazda dead at the scene. Meanwhile, the armored truck driver, 35-year-old Bradley Huss, suffered minor injuries.
The CHP Humboldt Area Office continues to investigate the fatal crash. Those who wish to cooperate can call the CHP Office at (707) 822-5981. Authorities will release additional information to the public once it becomes available.
