2 Hospitalized after Maltby Car Crash on Highway 9
MALTBY, WA (September 4, 2019) – Two drivers sustained injuries in a rollover crash on Highway 9 on August 30.
The incident shut down all northbound lanes of Highway 9 for several hours, just north of Highway 524. Fortunately, the highway finally reopened.
The troopers and medics came to the scene at about 8:15 a.m. upon reports of a two-vehicle crash.
Once the responders arrived, they located two totaled vehicles – a red 1995 Ford pickup and a silver 1997 Chevy Suburban.
The 39-year-old Suburban driver from Kirkland got trapped from the vehicle and required extrication. Responders took him to a hospital with serious injuries. Meanwhile, the 37-year-old pickup driver from Granite Falls also went to the hospital with less serious injuries.
According to the preliminary investigation, the Suburban headed north on Highway 9. Meanwhile, the pickup traveled south with a utility trailer behind it. As the pickup made a left turn, it collided with the Suburban.
The crash shut down the northbound lanes of Highway 9 for around 2 1/2 hours during cleanup and investigation.
Authorities ruled out drugs or alcohol as a factor in the collision.
