Two Arrested and Multiple Injured after Two Separate Crashes on 55 Freeway
COSTA MESA, CA (October 13, 2019) – At least two people suffered injuries following a series of crashes on 55 Freeway, early Sunday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the initial crash happened at about 3:36 AM. Due to unknown reasons, a northbound Toyota Camry was traveling north in the southbound lanes. There, it collided with a Ford Expedition. Then, other vehicles became involved in the wrong-way collision.
An off-duty nurse helped treat some of the injured victims while waiting for the arrival of emergency responders. An ambulance then transported two people to a hospital with unspecified injuries. Updates on their current conditions remain unknown.
A short time later, a white compact SUV sped through the area as officers worked on the investigation. The SUV struck at least one other vehicle before slamming into the rear of an unoccupied CHP vehicle.
Officers arrested the SUV driver on suspicion of driving under the influence of intoxicants. As per reports, authorities also detained the wrong-way driver. Investigators will release additional information once it becomes available.
