2 Pronounced Dead after 2-Car Accident near Highway 163 in San Diego
SAN DIEGO, CA (March 12, 2020) – Early Wednesday morning on March 11, a male and female were killed in a wrong-way collision on 5 Freeway.
Officers received reports of the crash around 1:15 a.m., on the northbound lanes of the freeway. Dispatchers arrived to the area near Highway 163, the California Highway Patrol revealed.
Two black sedans collided while one was driving the wrong-way. Both drivers were killed due to the impact of the collision.
The identities of those involved have not yet been released. However, authorities later confirmed that one of the drivers was a male and the other was female.
Authorities shut down all lanes of northbound 5 Freeway from 6th Street to Hawthorn Street during clean-up and preliminary investigation. However, the lanes were later reopened 6:45 a.m.
The events leading up to the crash as well as which driver was traveling the wrong way remain unclear.
