2 Killed and 3 Hurt in Madera Car Accident near Road 38
MADERA, CA (March 2, 2020) – Early Saturday morning, Carlos LemosChamo, Lisa Pena, and Daisy Figeroa were injured and two were killed in an accident on Highway 145.
The collision occurred around 2:40 a.m., just east of Road 38. A southbound 2015 Chrysler 300 was passing another vehicle when it veered into the eastbound lanes and collided head-on with a 2003 Honda Accord.
Three victims sustained injuries and required further treatment. 24-year-old LemosChamo of Merced was an occupant inside the Chrysler. 45-year-old Pena of Madera, and 35-year-old Figeroa of San Ysidro, were passengers inside the Honda.
Additionally, the Chrysler struck a barbed wire fence off the north shoulder of the highway, rolled over, and stopped in a cattle pasture. Meanwhile, the Honda spun clockwise before blocking the eastbound lane and bursting into flames.
Authorities later pronounced the drivers dead on scene due to the extent of their injuries. CHP described the identities of those who died as a 37-year-old woman from Madera and a 29-year-old man from Hollister.
Police are still uncertain whether alcohol or drugs played a role. However, an investigation remains ongoing. Officers are encouraging anyone with information to call the Madera area CHP office at 559-675-1025.
Highway 145 remained closed for around four hours following the collision. The area has since reopened to traffic.
