Fatal Fiery Crash on Interstate 5 near Highway 16 Exit
YOLO COUNTY, CA (August 23, 2019) – Two people lost their lives in a fiery crash on Interstate 5, early Friday morning. Authorities withheld the identities of the victims, pending notification of next of kin.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened at about 12:17 AM. Witnesses claim that a Ford SUV, driven by Jose Favela, attempted to make a U-turn near the Highway 16 exit.
There, the SUV crashed into a stopped semi-truck, driven by Luis Salas. As a result of the crash, both vehicles became engulfed in fire.
Unfortunately, two people in the SUV died as a result of the collision. Meanwhile, emergency responders transported three other victims to area hospitals with unspecified injuries.
Investigators ruled out drugs and alcohol as factors in the fatal collision. Authorities will release additional information to the public once it becomes available.
