2 Killed and 2 Hurt in Solo Vehicle Crash near Ludlow
LUDLOW, CA (July 31, 2019) – Two people died in an accident on 40 Freeway near Kelbaker Road Monday afternoon at about 2:30 p.m.
The California Highway Patrol said the victims were a 49-year old male driver and a 21-year-old female. Both were from Los Angeles.
The man was reportedly driving a 2003 Ford Expedition eastbound on lane number 1 of the freeway then allowed the vehicle to go to the right shoulder. He tried to get back to the lane and swerved to the left across both traffic lanes. The vehicle subsequently went to the dirt center divider and flipped over several times.
The force of the impact ejected the 21-year-old female sitting at the back. She was not properly restrained during the crash as per the CHP. She died at the scene.
Emergency responders airlifted the driver to Desert Regional Medical Center. He later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
The medics also airlifted the 48-year-old female passenger to Loma Linda University Medical Center with major injuries. She was sitting at the right rear of the Ford during the collision.
On the other hand, a ground ambulance took the front right passenger, an 18-year-old female, to Barstow Community Hospital. She sustained minor injuries.
The officers did not suspect that drugs and/or alcohol were factors in the crash. In the meantime, the CHP in Barstow is investigating.
