2 CHP Officers Hurt in Ukiah Car Accident
UKIAH, CA (May 27, 2019) – Two CHP officers sustained injuries in a collision with a pickup truck on Highway 101 on May 23.
CHP officers McKnight and Haddad traveled north on Highway 101 in a 2016 Dodge Charger near Henry Station Road about 4:00 p.m. May 23. However, McKnight, the driver, noticed a vehicle heading south at “a high rate of speed.” McKnight turned on the vehicle’s emergency lights and slowed as he tried to make a U-turn.
Upon slowing down, the vehicle traveling behind it, a 39-year-old Upper Lake man driving a 2000 GMC 2500 pickup hit the officers’ vehicle. Even if the pickup driver saw that the CHP vehicle slowed down, he still traveled too fast and too close.
As a result, the two officers sustained moderate injuries. Meanwhile, the pickup driver sustained other injuries.
Authorities ruled out drugs or alcohol as a factor in the collision. The CHP is still investigating the collision.
