2 12-Year-Old Girls and a 4-Year-Old Boy Hurt in Sunfair Dry Lake Bed Crash [Joshua Tree, CA]

Joshua Tree, CA (January 07, 2022) On Saturday, 3 minors were hurt in the Sunfair Dry Lake Bed Crash in Joshua Tree.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) says that the collision happened around 3:30 p.m.

Moreover, authorities say that 41-year-old Joshua Brock was driving a 2011 Nissan Frontier with 3 minors as passengers, they are all from Yucca Valley.

Meanwhile, 46-year-old Russell Pene Jr, from Banning was in a 1974 GMC truck in the opposite direction in the lake bed.

Pene has a 14-year-old boy passenger also from Banning.

“Both drivers were driving over dirt berms and once they noticed each other, they attempted to avoid a crash by turning to the south,” CHP Officer Casey Simmons says.

Both drivers were unable to avoid each other and collided.

Simmons said, “The two 12-year-old girls were riding in the bed of the Nissan pickup unrestrained and the 4-year-old boy was in the right front seat, not in an approved car seat when the head-on collision occurred.”

Both 12-year-old minors were thrown around the truck, luckily, they were not ejected from the truck.

One of the 12-year-olds was airlifted to Hi-Desert Medical Center due to serious injuries.

The other girl and the 4-year-old boy were sent to Desert Regional Medical Center.

CHP is still investigating the probable cause of the crash, Simmons’ says they are ruling DUI out as a cause.
