Floyd Lamont Howard Arrested after Fatal Pedestrian Crash near Walnut Street
STOCKTON, CA (December 20, 2018) – A woman was killed Thursday evening following a hit-and-run collision on North California Street. The identity of the 18-year-old victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
According to the Stockton Police Department, the incident happened at about 9:30 PM. A Chevrolet Suburban was traveling south when it struck a woman crossing the street at the Walnut Street intersection.
The victim suffered critical injuries and was transported to San Joaquin General Hospital for treatment and evaluation. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead hours after the collision.
The Chevrolet driver, identified as 57-year-old Floyd Lamont Howard, did not stop to render aid and fled the area. Howard was later arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run resulting in death and vehicular manslaughter. He is being held at the San Joaquin County Jail on $750,000 bail.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the fatal crash and to identify possible contributing factors. Additional information will be released once it becomes available.
