Police Investigate 18-wheeler Crash on Southwood Drive and FM 324 in Lufkin
Lufkin, TX (September 18, 2024) – On Wednesday, one person sustained minor injuries in a crash on Southwood Drive and FM 324.
The wreck, which occurred on Wednesday morning in the southern part of Lufkin, resulted in an injury to one individual.
Around 8 a.m., Lufkin Police and the Fire Department responded to the collision near Southwood Drive and FM 324. One of the drivers was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, authorities reported.
One of the 18-wheelers spilled its load of 25-foot steel pipes across the highway.
The driver was briefly trapped in the damaged cab of his truck, but a city update later confirmed that he was able to walk to the stretcher and was only treated for minor injuries.
The other driver, whose tanker flipped on its side, did not need medical attention.
Although chemicals from his truck briefly leaked onto the roadway, HAZMAT crews quickly cleared the scene.
Assisting in managing the crash were Lufkin Police, Lufkin Fire, Texas DPS, TxDOT, Lone Star HAZMAT, and the Texas Department of Emergency Management.
