17-Year-Old Anuar Jobi Killed in Collision on Expressway 83 [Brownsville, TX]

Brownsville, TX (August 29, 2023) – On Sunday morning, 17-year-old Anuar Jobi, a Saint Joseph Academy senior high school student, was killed in a vehicle collision on Expressway 83.

Donna Police officers responded to the scene at 3:20 a.m. to the eastbound lane of Expressway 83 near the Main Street overpass.

The authorities said that the Saint Joseph students were returning to Brownsville from downtown McAllen. 

A gray Volkswagen car driven by Astulfo Cantu Jr. of Palmview was traveling the wrong way on the eastbound lanes of the expressway. Officers said the Volkswagen almost collided with a DPS trooper before hitting the students head-on near Main Street.

Officers declared Anuar Jobi dead at the scene.

Moreover, the rescuers took three other passengers, two aged 17 and one aged 18, to area hospitals.

The authorities declared Cantu Jr. dead at the scene.

In the meantime, officers are awaiting a toxicology report to see if whether he was intoxicated. Officers are investigating.
