CUPERTINO, CA (November 27, 2019) – A 16-year-old boy died in a car crash on Highway 85 on November 26.
The incident occurred shortly before 11:00 a.m. between two cars at the transition ramp from southbound Highway 85 to southbound 280 Freeway.
The incident closed northbound and southbound ramps from Highway 85 for multiple hours. According to reports, a 42-year-old man drove a 2003 Toyota Corolla, together with a 46-year-old woman in the front seat, and the 16-year-old victim and two other juveniles in the rear.
The Toyota drove past a 1999 Ford F-Series dump truck before he lost control of the vehicle that went off the road, onto the right shoulder and hit a tree.
After colliding with the tree, the Toyota steered back to traffic, spun out and crashed with the Ford. The Ford driver pulled off to the left shoulder while the Toyota stopped in the road, blocking traffic and partially on the dirt embankment shoulder.
The ejected 16-year-old died at a hospital at around 12:15 p.m. However, some of the other Toyota passengers also went to the hospital with minor injuries.
