14-Year-Old Girl Airlifted to Hospital After Bicycle Crash on Second Street and Pine Street
Brentwood, CA (August 7, 2020) – On Thursday, a 14-year-old girl was injured in a bicycle crash on Second Street and Pine Street.
The accident happened at about 2:17 p.m. on August 6 when she was struck by a car at the intersection of two streets.
A spokesperson of Brentwood Police Department said the girl briefly lost consciousness and may have sustained a broken ankle. Though, she was alert and conscious when the rescuers took her by ambulance to the Liberty High School football field where a medical helicopter waits for her. Rescuers flew her to UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital in Oakland.
The involved driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
Moreover, authorities said several witnesses gave similar statements about the accident. The preliminary investigation confirms the bicyclist crossed Second Street against the red light.
As a result, she was struck by a silver Honda sedan traveling south.
Along with the BPD, paramedics and firefighters from the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District responded to the accident.
Meanwhile, authorities blocked the traffic on the southbound side of Second Street while the scene was active.
Wear helmets when riding bicycles. Also, wait for the lights to turn before crossing streets and intersections.
