14-year-old Bicyclist Critical after Hit-and-Run Collision in Oakland
OAKLAND, CA (January 03, 2019) – A 14-year-old male bicyclist is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle Wednesday afternoon in Oakland.
According to the Oakland police, the incident occurred at about 12:23 p.m. Wednesday in the 1100 block of 35th Avenue near the Fruitvale BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) Station.
The teen was reportedly hit by a gold Honda, and then he was stuck underneath the vehicle. The vehicle dragged the victim four blocks from the initial collision site until it stopped in the 900 block of 34th Avenue, where the teen was able to finally dislodge himself from the undercarriage.
The driver and his female passenger drove away afterward. The police said the suspect vehicle was found abandoned nearby.
The teen was taken to the hospital with broken bones and internal injuries. He was reported to be in critical condition.
The Oakland Police Department and the Crime Stoppers of Oakland are now offering a reward of up to $5, 000 for any information leading to an arrest in this case. Anyone who has witnessed the incident is urged to call OPD’s Traffic Investigative Section at (510) 777-8570.
