13-Year-Old Boy Hospitalized after Los Alamos Bicycle Accident
LOS ALAMOS, CA (April 11, 2019) – A 13-year-old male bicyclist sustained injuries in a collision with a vehicle on April 10 in Los Alamos.
The Santa Barbara County Fire Department and CHP came to respond to a crash at 7:30. The incident occurred near the southbound onramp to Highway 101 at Highway 135.
According to CHP Officer Michael Gruver, the boy rode west against a flow of traffic. Unfortunately, 50-year-old Karen Nielsen of Los Alamos turned right and hit him.
The impact ejected the boy from his bike. Gruver added that the bicyclist suffered injuries. Moreover, a Calstar medical helicopter flew him to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.
Authorities ruled out drugs or alcohol as a factor in the collision. Meanwhile, Gruver added that the bicyclist didn’t wear a helmet during the collision.
The boy headed to Olga Reed Elementary School during the crash.
