1 Injured in Olympia Car Accident
OLYMPIA, WA (February 1, 2019) – The suspect driver who struck an 11-year-old boy with a minivan then escaped the area has surrendered himself to police.
The WSP revealed that Irven Jacobs turned himself in to authorities on January 30. According to him, the media and his acquaintances pressured him to do so.
Jacobs told the investigators that he was the man behind the wheel when 11-year-old Isaiah Bermeo was struck by a minivan while walking on Highway 101 near Oyster Bay Road on January 27. The authorities didn’t disclose whether Jacobs gave a reason for escaping the area, citing the integrity of the investigation. However, the investigators also stated that Jacobs has a criminal history.
According to reports, the victim has autism and cannot speak. He was said to be playing on a trampoline in their yard and wandered off. Family members were reportedly looking for him when they heard the sirens.
Isaiah was flown to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition. His father revealed that Isaiah has no brain activity after the incident.
“This investigation hit us pretty hard,” investigators stated.
Our thoughts are with the family, friends, and loved ones of young Isaiah Bermeo.
