Young Pedestrian Struck and Killed by Pickup Truck near Vernon Middle School
MONTCLAIR, CA (September 6, 2018) – A boy was killed Thursday morning following a pedestrian crash on San Bernardino Street near Vernon Avenue. The identity of the 11-year-old victim was not immediately released to the public.
According to the Montclair Police Department, a relative dropped off the victim outside Vernon Middle School, shortly before 8:00 AM. He was walking to class inside a crosswalk when he was struck by a black Chevrolet four-door pickup truck.
The boy suffered severe head injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment and evaluation. Unfortunately, the victim succumbed to his injuries, and he was pronounced dead by medical staff. Meanwhile, the driver of the pickup truck remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the collision and to identify possible contributing factors.
