Injuries Reported in Abilene Fatal Crash
Abilene, TX (June 7, 2024) – A 10-year-old passenger sustained fatal injuries following a Highway 153 collision Thursday morning.
It was about 7:13 a.m. on June 6 when a Honda Pilot towing a trailer was northbound on the freeway.
At the same time, a Toyota truck was southbound on the same freeway.
The Honda swerved off the north side of the road onto a ditch. Its driver overcorrected attempting to get back on the road, but the car skidded sideways into the southbound lane.
The Toyota struck the Honda in the southbound lane.
As a result, the 10-year-old Honda passenger was ejected from the vehicle and was declared dead at the scene.
Immediately, the rescuers rushed the Honda driver to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Two children in the Honda were rushed to a children’s hospital in unknown condition. Also, another Honda passenger was hospitalized with an incapacitating injury.
Meanwhile, the Toyota driver and a passenger were also hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Three children riding the Toyota were taken to a children’s hospital with incapacitating injuries in stable condition.
Troopers said the driver of the Honda and an adult passenger were wearing seatbelts when the collision happened. None of the children in the same vehicle had their seatbelts on.
All the Toyota passengers wore seatbelts.
