Ten Immigrants Hospitalized After Bus VS 18-wheeler Crash on US 77 in Victoria County

Victoria County, TX (December 27, 2024) – The Victoria County Sheriff’s Office reports that several detained immigrants sustained injuries in a crash on US 77, Friday.

The collision occurred around 7:30 a.m. on US 77 South. According to the sheriff’s office, a bus carrying 19 immigration detainees and three guards collided with an 18-wheeler.

Emergency responders had to extricate one person trapped in the wreckage. That individual was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. 

Nine other detainees were also taken to area hospitals for treatment, but their conditions remain unknown.

Detainees who were not injured were brought to the Victoria County Sheriff’s Office, where they were held until another bus arrived to transport them.

Multiple agencies assisted at the crash site and provided support at the hospital. 

The Texas Department of Public Safety is conducting an investigation into the incident.
