Police Investigate School Bus vs. Big Rig Crash on US Highway 87 East 

Bexar County, TX (August 30, 2024) – Early Friday morning, police responded to a minor injury crash on US Highway 87 East involving a school bus.

An East Central ISD school bus collided with a big rig in east Bexar County, causing minor injuries to about 10 children, according to the school district.

The accident occurred early Friday morning in the 10500 block of U.S. Highway 87 East.

Brandon Oliver, East Central ISD’s Director of Marketing and Communications, reported that many of the children suffered scrapes and bumps.

An email from the district on Friday evening revealed that 13 children and one adult were transported with minor injuries. It noted that 12 of those who did not go to the hospital were picked up by their parents, and eight went to school.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office stated that more than 30 students were on the bus at the time of the crash. Oliver mentioned that the children involved can go home with their parents if they choose.

Part of Highway 87 was closed for a while due to the crash, but the lanes have since reopened.

Authorities indicated that they do not expect to file any charges related to the accident.
