1 Hospitalized after Accident between Round Mountain and Burney
SHASTA COUNTY, CA (June 20, 2018) – One person was seriously injured in a semi-truck crash on Highway 299, late Wednesday morning.
The head-on crash collision occurred between Round Mountain and Burney, at around 10:38 AM. According to witnesses, the driver of an older black Honda was allegedly driving erratically and was seen recklessly passing other vehicles over double yellow lines and on blind curves. It was on the wrong side of the highway, approaching an SST Oil big-rig tanker truck.
The semi-truck driver attempted pushing his vehicle as far off the road as he safely could, but the two vehicles collided head-on.
Good Samaritans who rendered aid to the injured driver of the Honda reported that the male victim was alert and conscious and was able to speak, but had suffered major injuries. Due to the extent of his injuries, CHP and medical personnel requested an air ambulance to transport him to a hospital for further treatment and evaluation.
While a helicopter was responding to the area, firefighters used the “Jaws of Life” to pull out the seriously injured driver from the wrecked car. A Reach Air Ambulance arrived just before 11:30 AM. The driver was quickly airlifted to the Mercy Medical Center in Redding. His current condition has not been updated.
The truck driver was not injured in the collision. No further information has been released about the incident, and the investigation is ongoing at this time.
