1 Hurt in Sacramento Train Collision
SACRAMENTO, CA (February 10, 2020) – A driver sustained serious injuries after a car and train collision on Elder Creek Road on February 7.
The incident first occurred on the Elder Creek Road train crossing just before 2:45 a.m.
According to reports, a white Ford van got struck, and pushed several hundred feet down the tracks before it came down an embankment, landing in a large puddle of mud.
The Sacramento Fire Department then revealed that they had to use power tools to pry the driver’s side door open and remove the vehicle’s dash from the man’s legs.
Responders later took the driver to a nearby hospital in serious condition.
It’s still unknown why the van stayed on the tracks when the crash happened. There were crossing guards were lowered on both sides of Elder Creek Road.
The train blocked Florin Road to the south while officers investigated with Union Pacific Railroad officers. By 5:00 a.m., the roads reopened.
