3 Hurt in Deadly Pierce County Accident on Pioneer Way and Stewart Avenue
PIERCE COUNTY, WA (April 1, 2021) – Wednesday afternoon, a 16-year-old person died in a crash on Pioneer Way and Stewart Avenue.
The incident occurred at around 2:00 p.m. on Pioneer Way East and Stewart Avenue East. The crash led to the closure of Pioneer Way in both directions for five hours.
According to some witnesses, the 18-year-old driver traveled at a high rate of speed.
Then, the vehicle with four teen occupants clipped another vehicle that was turning left onto Pioneer Way. As a result, the teen driver lost control. c
“Fishtailed into the embankment, which got it sideways and into the pole. The speed from that car is the primary reason for the crash at this point,” stated Sgt. Darren Moss Jr. with the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.
As a result, a 16-year-old male passenger succumbed to injuries at the scene. Meanwhile, the three male teen passengers suffered serious injuries and required hospitalization.
Meanwhile, the driver might face vehicular homicide charges. They are also investigating whether the driver was speeding or driving recklessly.
