Fatality and Injuries Reported in Ukiah Auto Accident on State Route 20 and Sangra La Lane
UKIAH, CA (June 15, 2021) – Early Sunday morning, one person died in a solo crash on State Route 20 and Sangra La Lane.
The incident happened at around 3:12 a.m. on State Route 20, east of Sangra La Lane.
According to the investigation, a driver of a Silver 2009 Honda Accord traveled west on State Route 20. As the driver traveled at around 45 mph, the driver noticed an eastbound vehicle with its high beams on.
As the driver stared into the lights, the driver turned unsafely and let the Honda drove across the roadway edge line. The vehicle went over the road edge until it reached a grass shoulder on the north shoulder of State Route 20. Then, the Honda crashed head-on with a tree.
The crash left one passenger with fatal injuries. According to reports, the deceased victim improperly wore his lap/shoulder harness seatbelt during the crash. As a result, the passenger’s head hit the rear of the front passenger seat of the Honda.
Meanwhile, another passenger complained of pain while a third passenger suffered serious internal injuries. The third passenger suffered a lacerated spleen and liver.
Responders transported the two passengers and the driver to Mendocino Coast District Hospital.
Then, an Air Ambulance took the passenger who complained of pain to UC Davis Medical Center.
The authorities do not believe that alcohol and/or drugs played a role in the crash.
Also, the authorities continue to investigate the crash.
