Police Investigate a Fatal Wrong-Way Crash on State Route 87 in Mesa

Mesa, AZ (November 11, 2021) – Wednesday night, one person died in a wrong-way crash on State Route 87.

The fatal crash happened before 10 p.m. on November 10, along State Route 87 between Oak Street and McDowell Road.

Salt River Police Department said they found two vehicles, both with heavy damage, blocking the roadway. One of the vehicles was reported to be headed in the wrong direction of travel.

As a result, one person was taken out of the vehicle and taken to the hospital, but they died from their injuries.

Another person involved in the crash was evaluated by medical crews but did not need further treatment. 

No other information is immediately available.

Further investigation into this crash is underway.
