1 Dead in Oakland Pedestrian Accident on 580 Freeway
OAKLAND, CA (December 19, 2019) – A person died in a pedestrian accident on 580 Freeway near Lakeshore on December 18.
According to CHP, the Mercedes driver traveled too fast on a curve on westbound 580 Freeway and spun out while raining. A pickup truck got involved in a minor collision with the Mercedes. When the truck driver went off his vehicle, he walked around and another vehicle hit his truck. The collision sent the truck driver into the eastbound lanes. Authorities pronounced the driver dead at the scene.
“The attempt should always be to move to the right hand shoulder or the center-median if your vehicles are drivable. So always attempt to do that first. Regardless of how much damage your car has it will possibly still move. If you can’t do that, you need to remain in your car with your seatbelt on. That is the safest place for you to be. As soon as you get out and start walking around in lanes that is when incidents like this happen” CHP Sgt. Alex Edmon stated.
Authorities advised the motorists to slow down and drive safely in the rainy conditions.
Our deepest sympathies are extended to the family and friends of the victim.
