Wrong-Way Driver Dies in Early Morning Crash on Highway 101 in Palo Alto
PALO ALTO, CA (June 16, 2019) – One person was killed following a wrong-way crash early Sunday morning in Palo Alto, authorities said.
The accident happened just after 2:00 a.m. on northbound Highway 101 at Embarcadero Road.
According to reports, a vehicle was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of the highway when it crashed head-on into another vehicle that was heading in the correct direction.
The wrong-way vehicle immediately burst into flames. However, the driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials transferred the other driver to a hospital with a broken leg, lacerations and other injuries. There were no passengers in either vehicle.
Both vehicles sustained major front-end damage and were towed away from the wreckage. However, officials have not released any other information regarding the accident.
Police have not identified the victim at this time. The California Highway Patrol is still investigating the fatal accident.
