1 Dead in Santa Rosa Vehicle Crash on State Route 1 and Leeward Spur

SANTA ROSA, CA (October 31, 2023) – Saturday night, a 1-year-old child died in a horrific auto accident on State Route 1 and Leeward Spur.

The incident happened at around 10:25 p.m. on State Route 1, north of Leeward Spur, in the Sea Ranch Area.

According to the preliminary investigation, the driver of a Ford F-150 was driving northbound on SR-1. Then, the Ford veered off the right side of the roadway and went up an ascending dirt embankment.

Then, the Ford rolled over back onto the roadway.

As a result of the crash, a 1-year-old infant passenger suffered fatal injuries and a 4-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries.

Moreover, officers confirmed that the 19-year-old male driver was under the influence of alcohol. Thus, after being cleared of injuries at the hospital, the driver was booked at the Sonoma County Jail for Felony Driving Under the Influence, Gross Vehicular Manslaughter while DUI, Child Endangerment, and having an Unsecured Firearm in the vehicle.

Furthermore, the authorities urged anyone with information regarding this crash to contact the Santa Rosa CHP office at (707)588-1400. Any inquiries on the deceased shall be directed to the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Coroner’s office.

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
