HPD Investigate Fatal Hit-And-Run Crash on North Expressway 77 in Harlingen

Harlingen, TX (November 29, 2024) – Harlingen police are actively investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash on North Expressway 77 that occurred early Friday morning. 

Shortly after 3 a.m., officers responded to a report of a body found on the side of the road near the 2900 block of North Expressway 77 frontage road.

According to a news release from the Harlingen Police Department, authorities determined that the victim, a 19-year-old Harlingen resident, appeared to have been struck by a vehicle. 

Although the victim’s family has been notified, police are withholding his identity at this time.

Investigators revealed that no witnesses were present during the crash, and the driver involved fled the scene without stopping to provide aid. 

To identify the suspect’s vehicle and determine the cause of the accident, authorities are reviewing surveillance footage from the surrounding area.
