1 Dead in Pine Grove Multi-Vehicle Accident on Highway 88 and Toyon Road

PINE GROVE, CA (December 10, 2024) – Monday afternoon, a person died in a devastating 4-vehicle crash on Highway 88 and Toyon Road.

The incident involving four vehicles occurred at about 12:22 p.m. on Highway 88 and Toyon Road.

The California Highway Patrol reported that a Nissan and Honda were stopped in a traffic control area on Highway 88 heading eastbound when a Buick, traveling westbound at around 15 mph, passed by.

A Toyota traveling eastbound crossed into the westbound lanes, colliding with the Buick. The impact caused the Toyota to hit the rear of the Nissan, pushing it into the rear of the Honda. The Toyota then overturned onto its roof, ejecting the driver.

The driver of the Toyota, a 70-year-old woman from Volcano, succumbed to her injuries. The Nissan’s driver and passenger sustained moderate injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital. 

The Buick’s driver and passenger suffered minor injuries but did not require hospitalization.

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.

Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
