1 Dead in Butte County Multi-Vehicle Accident on Highway 99 and Cana Highway

BUTTE COUNTY, CA (March 8, 2023) – Tuesday afternoon, a person died in a four-vehicle crash on Highway 99 and Cana Highway.

The incident happened just before 3:30 p.m. on Highway 99 and Cana Highway.

According to the CHP, a woman driving a silver car traveled north on Highway 99. Then, she crossed the centerline. Thus, the driver of a big rig swerved to avoid her. However, the Toyota struck the big rig’s rear axle and spun out several times. Then, the Toyota collided with a red vehicle, causing it to overturn.

Emergency services rushed the Toyota’s driver to the hospital with major injuries. The driver of the red vehicle was also taken to the hospital, and both were conscious and responsive, as per the CHP.

CAL FIRE reported that they extricated two people from their vehicles. Debris from the accident covered over a quarter mile along the highway.

However, at 7:29 p.m., CHP confirmed that the silver Toyota driver succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. Responders also took the pickup truck driver to Enloe for moderate injuries.

At this time, the authorities haven’t disclosed the identity of the deceased.

The incident shut down the northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 99. As an alternate route, motorists used Cana Highway.

Also, the authorities haven’t determined whether DUI played a role in the crash.

Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.

We want to send our sincere sympathies to the bereaved family and friends of the victim of the crash on Highway 99 and Cana Highway.
