1 Dead in Monterey County Multi-Vehicle Accident on Highway 101 and Gloria Road

MONTEREY COUNTY, CA (October 20, 2024) – Saturday morning, a person died in a brutal 5-vehicle crash on Highway 101 and Gloria Road.

The incident happened at 11:45 a.m. on Highway 101 south of Gloria Road.

A 16-year-old from Salinas, driving a 2021 Chevrolet 2500 and hauling a trailer, was heading south on Highway 101 when he collided with a Chevrolet Colorado in front of him, according to the CHP. The impact caused the Colorado to lose control and rollover. 

As a result, the driver of the Colorado was pronounced dead at the scene, while the male passenger was taken to Natividad Medical Center for treatment.

The initial crash triggered a chain reaction involving three more vehicles, but no one else was injured. Both southbound lanes of Highway 101 were closed for investigation, with one reopening at 1:38 p.m. and the second at 3:13 p.m.
