1 Dead in Walnut Creek Multi-Vehicle Accident on Interstate 680 and Rudgear Road

WALNUT CREEK, CA (October 27, 2024) – Friday morning, a person died in a horrific 3-vehicle crash on Interstate 680 and Rudgear Road.

The incident happened at about 6:00 a.m. in the northbound lanes of Interstate 680 before the Rudgear Road exit. 

The crash scene was extensive, closing lanes 1-3 northbound and lane 1 southbound on I-680, causing major traffic delays in both directions. By 7:21 a.m., all southbound lanes had reopened, but heavy traffic continued southbound until around 9 a.m. 

Reports said that the northbound lanes remained closed longer, with a photo shared by CHP Contra Costa showing at least one vehicle on its side. 

CHP later confirmed one fatality in the collision, though further details were not immediately available. All northbound lanes were reopened by 9:49 a.m., nearly four hours after the incident.
