Alleged Hit-and-Run Driver Arrested After Fatal Crash on 60 Freeway in Diamond Bar
DIAMOND BAR, CA (August 06, 2019) – Officers arrested an alleged hit-and-run driver following a fatal crash on 60 Freeway early Sunday morning.
The California Highway Patrol said the incident happened in the eastbound lanes of the freeway east of Grand Avenue at about 4:45 a.m.
A 2002 Mazda Protege had become disabled in traffic lanes number 4 and 5 due to a previous collision when a 2002 Chevrolet Blazer approached in lane number 4. The Chevrolet swerved but still struck the Mazda, including its driver who was stepping out of the vehicle.
Paramedics pronounced the 24-year-old Pomona man driving the Mazda dead at the scene. On the other hand, they treated his passenger, a 21-year-old Anaheim woman, for moderate injuries.
According to the officers, the 30-year-old Fontana man driving the Chevrolet abandoned his SUV and ran away. However, they later apprehended him at his residence. The alleged hit-and-run driver was treated for cuts prior to booking.
Our deepest sympathies to the loved ones of the victim.
