BELLINGHAM, WA (December 22, 2021) – Tuesday morning, a person died in a rollover crash on Interstate 5 near Lake Samish Drive.
 
The incident occurred at around 6:15 a.m. in the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 near the N Lake Samish Drive interchange.
 
Reports confirmed that there were “extremely icy” conditions with several non-injury collisions encountered in the backup.
 
The incident caused a traffic backup in the southbound lanes extended 5 miles to the north of the Old Fairhaven Parkway (SR11) interchange.
 
By 7:00 a.m., WAP advised motorists of multiple crashes in both the northbound and southbound lanes in the area.
 
Meanwhile, WSP Trooper Jacob Kennett confirmed that one person died at PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center. Moreover, the victim was an occupant of a vehicle that had rolled in a crash. Then, another vehicle struck the victim while standing outside their vehicle.
 
Then, responders took another patient with non-life-threatening injuries from the initial rollover crash.
