The incident occurred at about 11:20 a.m. on Highway 178, west of Mobile Drive.
The California Highway Patrol reported that a Ford F-150 pickup was traveling at an unsafe speed, failed to navigate a curve, and plunged into a 30-foot embankment. Wet road conditions were cited as a contributing factor.
The male driver was transported to Kern Valley Hospital, where he later died. The female passenger sustained minor injuries and was taken to Kern Medical, according to a CHP news release.
