Fatal Two-Vehicle Collision on Redwood Street near Valle Vista Avenue
VALLEJO, CA (August 31, 2019) – A 33-year-old woman died in a two-vehicle collision on Redwood Street, Saturday afternoon. Authorities withheld her identity, pending notification of next of kin.
According to the Vallejo Police Department, the incident happened at about 12:34 PM. An eastbound Nissan Altima attempted to make a left turn onto Valle Vista Avenue. There, it collided with a westbound gold Nissan Maxima.
The 23-year-old driver of the gold Nissan suffered minor injuries, while his 23-year-old female passenger did not sustain injuries. Meanwhile, a 33-year-old woman inside the Nissan Altima died at the scene.
The driver of the Altima attempted to drive away from the scene, while the front passenger fled the scene on foot. A short time later, officers detained both Vallejo men. One suffered a broken leg and the other sustained minor injuries.
Vallejo PD reportedly found drugs and alcohol inside the Altima. Also, the Altima driver did not possess a valid license. Authorities will release additional information once it becomes available.
