1 Dead in Mission Valley Accident on 805 Freeway
MISSION VALLEY, CA (December 27, 2019) – A person died in an accident on 805 Freeway on December 19.
According to reports, a suspected DUI driver went out of his vehicle on the freeway after a crash that he caused after driving in the wrong direction. However, he got hit by a car and died at the hospital.
The 28-year-old Alpine driver approached southbound lanes of 805 Freeway while driving northbound. He then headed east onto westbound lanes of 8 Freeway. The incident happened at around 11:20 p.m. on 8 Freeway, between 805 Freeway and 15 Freeway.
Some people reported the wrong-way driver to 911. However, the driver then collided head-on into another vehicle.
The wrong-way driver hit an Acura TL and stopped in the second lane of the 8 Freeway. The man then went out of his car and headed north where he got hit by a Toyota Tacoma and then by a Ford Escape.
Responders took the wrong-way driver to Sharp Memorial Hospital where he later died.
Meanwhile, the Ford’s driver sustained minor injuries to his left hand and received treatment at the scene. The Acura and Toyota drivers didn’t suffer any injury.
A video of the scene showed a truck with a bumper hanging off and a tire wrecked from the axle. Moreover, the other car sustained a hole in the driver’s side windshield.
The incident shut down the lanes during the investigation. It reopened before 3:00 a.m.
Authorities are still unsure whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
