Man Dies, Five Others Hospitalized after Crash on Whetstone Commerce Drive in Benson
Benson, AZ (July 28, 2022) – Thursday afternoon, a man died, and several others sustained injuries in a crash on Whetstone Commerce Drive.
The fatal crash in Benson happened at around 3 p.m. on July 28.
Cochise County deputies attempted to stop a Ford Expedition on Davis Road at milepost 18, but the driver failed to stop and started speeding away at speeds over 100 miles per hour.
Officers then stopped following it and issued an “attempt to locate” call for the vehicle.
Moreover, at about 3 p.m. the Expedition was spotted traveling north on Highway 90 at speeds estimated at over 100 miles per hour.
Shortly after, an SUV was turning left at Whetstone Commerce Drive on Highway 90 when the Expedition crashed into it.
As a result, one passenger inside the Expedition died while three others including the female driver sustained injuries.
The driver from Tucson is in her 20s, she was flown to Tucson hospital.
Officers said the other two injured passengers were undocumented immigrants
Meanwhile, the SUV’s two occupants also sustained injuries.
No other information is immediately available.
Further investigation is ongoing.
