Teacher Dead and Children Hospitalized After Crash on Interstate 10 Frontage Road in Austin
Austin, TX (December 19, 2024) – The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office reported that a 20-year-old teacher lost her life, and several children sustained injuries in a crash on Interstate 10 Frontage Road Thursday afternoon.
Emergency responders transported the driver and five children to nearby hospitals as a precaution following the incident, according to Sheriff Javier Salazar.
The accident occurred while parents were picking up students from a school holiday party.
“This is a heartbreaking scene,” Sheriff Salazar stated. He explained that a parent had loaded her children into her vehicle and then, for unknown reasons, accelerated into another vehicle, which was pushed into a fence as a result.
Salazar noted that investigators do not suspect the crash was an intentional act or caused by intoxication.
“The driver does have a past medical history that may have played a role,” he added. “It’s possible this was the result of a medical issue.”
Authorities have notified the next of kin for the deceased teacher and the injured children, but the sheriff’s office has not released their identities.
Sweet Lawyers extend our heartfelt condolences to the loved ones of the deceased. May the bereaved find solace and strength in this extremely trying time.
