Police Investigate Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 5 in Sacramento
Sacramento, CA (January 27, 2023) – Thursday night, one person died, and three others sustained injuries in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 5.
The fatal multi-vehicle crash in Sacramento happened around 9:30 p.m. on January 26, north of J Street.
CHP said a driver who had broken down was waiting for AAA in the interstate’s middle divider. A Lexus then approached and parked next to the tow truck after the driver of their tow vehicle had pulled over in the #1 lane.
Then a 24-year-old Stockton guy operating a Toyota rear-ended the Lexus. The Lexus’s driver moved into the barrier and started directing traffic around the Toyota that had stalled.
Moreover, a 52-year-old Clarksburg man operating a Ford F-150 was traveling south on I-5 when he swerved to miss the Toyota and also pulled into the center divider.
A 29-year-old male from Kelso, Washington, was operating a Hyundai when he rear-ended a stopped Toyota.
The Toyota spun sideways into the rear of the Ford F-150, killing the Toyota’s front passenger – a 67-year-old man from Stockton – and leaving the rear right passenger trapped inside.
Reportedly, one person died, and three patients were injured.
Further investigation into this crash is ongoing.
