Wrong-Way Driver Causes Fatal Crash on 71 Freeway in Chino
CHINO, CA (October 12, 2019) – One person was killed and three others were injured following a wrong-way crash early Saturday morning in Chino.
The crash happened around 1:50 a.m. on 71 Freeway at Grand Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, one vehicle was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of the freeway when it collided head-on with another vehicle. The impact caused one of the vehicles to catch fire.
Officers responded to the scene and found one vehicle in the center divider fully engulfed in flames. A white sedan was also located with front-end damage.
Paramedics pronounced one person dead at the scene. The identity of the deceased was not immediately disclosed.
Three other people were taken to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center with unspecified injuries.
Crews closed all freeway lanes while they cleared the crash site.
Authorities are still investigating the incident to determine the factors involved and liability.
