1 Killed, 3 Injured in Head-On Crash at Westwood Street and Avenue 178 [PORTERVILLE, CA]

Afternoon Head-On Crash in Porterville Kills One Motorist

 
PORTERVILLE, CA (June 17, 2019) – One person was killed and three others were injured following a head-on crash Monday afternoon in Porterville.
 
The crash happened around 3:42 p.m. at the intersection of Westwood Street and Avenue 178.
 
According to witnesses, a Chevrolet Silverado was heading northbound on Westwood Street, just North of Avenue 178, when it veered into the southbound lane and collided head-on with a Toyota Corolla.
 
The unidentified driver of the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene.
 
The driver of the Silverado, a woman in her forties, told officers she was falling asleep at the wheel. She was transported to the hospital with major injuries.
 
The initial collision caused a chain-reaction crash with a Jeep in the southbound lane. The driver and passenger in that vehicle were taken to the hospital with minor to moderate injuries.
 
At this time, drugs and alcohol were not being ruled out as factors in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
